How I book my flights?

One late night (or was it early morning) about a week ago I couldn’t sleep. Someone was having party in the apartment above mine and I could hear them too clearly. I was too stressed out and having too many thoughts in my mind. It was one of those nights when you go trough all your life decisions and regret half of them. It was one of those moments when you can’t decide what you want to do with your life and you can’t understand how doing decisions like this seems so easy for other people.

I was sipping tea, staring my maps and listening motivational videos. That’s something I have done lately a lot when I have no idea where my own life is going. And then between changing videos I somehow ended up doing another thing I have done lately. I opened skyscanner and searched cheap flights to anywhere.

I don’t know what was different this time. Maybe it was those screaming neighbors I could hear laughing too loudly and living too recklessly. Or maybe it was the inspirational voice speaking in my headphones and telling me to just do it. It may have also had something to do with all the international and exchange student talks my school has lately kept. And then again it may all be because of this blog.

I don’t know what was different this time but I bought the cheapest ticket to anywhere. To Gdanks, Poland and Stockholm, Sweden to be exact. Right now week later I am sitting in cruise ship writing this while a few older ladies sip coffee around me. Apparently Sweden trips aren’t that popular during winter and ice. Next week will be full of amazing solo adventures around Europe.

I do this literally every time. I end up booking my tickets without any proper planning. This same thing happened with my three months Japan trip and even with my recent London holiday. I just can’t keep myself from leaving and when I try it ends up like this. Flight tickets to foreigner country and surprised friends and family.
And that’s my way of buying flight tickets and planning new adventures… With one small thought that grows to something bigger.

What about you? Do you ever do crazy stunts like this or do you prefer planning your trips properly beforehand?

With love,

Viivi Severina

  1. Hmmm I’m more of an in-between when it comes to this. If I’m alone then I can be impulsive but if traveling with others then we need to sort of have a plan when to go. I really wish I live in Europe! Looks easy to travel anywhere. I Hope you enjoyed your trip!

    1. Haha, it really depends where in Europe you live. For example I live now in Finland and it is not that easy/cheap to just leave if you don’t know the right tricks. For example I have to go to Sweden first because flying from Finland would have been super expensive.

But I can understand what you mean when speaking about planning when traveling with others. I do that too. It is hard to ask friends to just leave for short notice trip so it is easier to do that alone. Thanks for commenting! 🙂

  2. I would love to be impulsive with travel but with children so far we have only done well planned trips. However we were impulsive last month and bought tickets for New Zealand on sale on a whim. Not it looks like hubby can’t get leave from work so we shall see how successful it is

    1. Well I can understand why you can’t do quick trips with children. However doing planned trips is cool too so keep doing those! Thanks for commenting and I really hope your New Zealand trip will go well and that you can do it 🙂

  3. Haha, fabulous! I think you made the right choice 😀

I’m a mixture of both really. When I went to Poland last year, I booked that and was then on the plane a week later (without any prior thought), and even India I cut pretty fine (about 2 months, because I had to apply for an employment visa!). And I actually just randomly booked a flight to Portugal yesterday, although I’m not going until May, so I suppose that was sort of planned, inasmuch that I will be planning it over the next two months (or maybe I won’t, I’m pretty chill in regards to that, haha), but that was deffo a ‘oh damn, it’s a £20 flight to Porto!? I’ve always wanted to go, let’s goooooooo!’ So, unplanned but I’ve given myself time TO plan? Haha. But I love being ‘reckless.’ Booking a ticket somewhere random? My idea of heaven. Enjoy your trips!

    1. Haha we are quite similar flight bookers then! 😀
I have always wanted to visit Portugal so I can see why you booked those tickets. I hope you will have amazing time there. And maybe you should plan a little bit before going 😀
But I think whatever we plan or not the best thing (and thing we can all probably agree) is that it is just amazing to travel somewhere 🙂

  4. You did the right thing! Sometimes we don’t have to think much and just do it. As far my flight booking is concerned they are always risky stunts…but can’t escape from doing a little planning. 😉 ….have safe trip! 🙂

  5. I would if I lived in Europe. Traveling from Canada is rather pricey. We have deals to the Caribbean especially during winter and I have had the occasional ‘let’s go trips.’

    1. Caribbean doesn’t sound that bad! 😀
But I can kind of understand your problem with expensive tickets because it costs a lot to travel from Finland to anywhere even to Europe when flying. For example now I had to first take cruise to Sweden and fly to Poland from there because the flight tickets from Finland were too expensive.. Thanks for commenting 🙂

      1. Yep, we also have financial goals to meet since there is no pension social net in this part of the year. Hence, there is only a limited amount that we can spend on traveling

        1. For me too I am able to do these not so planned trips because I have worked as much as possible to do some extra money for travelling.. Let’s hope we can all travel as much as possible 🙂
